WHY DID GOD MAKE US DIFFERENT?

Harmony, according to a dictionary, means “A state of peaceful existence and agreement.” The musical meaning describes my approach better. “The way in which different notes that are played or sung together combine to make a pleasing sound” (Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 2006, p. 682). Imagine yourself in a musical concert where instruments are used together to create harmony. Every sound is different yet equally important. Each instrument when used properly produces a sound, but not harmony. Relate our different gifts to serving similar roles with the musical keys or notes. We are different for the sake of harmony. The blending of our gifts produces harmony that can help transform our world for God’s glory.

Did God create us for competition, dominance or for one person to be superior to others? The answer is, no. A tree needs the soil and water to grow in harmony. I observed that the teamwork among choristers is often strong. I was curious to learn the secret. I found out that it is because they need each other. None of them can achieve harmony without the others.

The absence of one gift no matter how irrelevant you might think it is, leads to a break down in harmony of life. We were created uniquely to produce sounds for harmony. I often insist that no one is useless in God’s master plan. No one was created to live alone. Living alone will create sound, not harmony. It is important we respect the contributions of others toward achieving the harmony in God’s master plan.

In my writings, I have benefitted from the contributions of other people. Nobody writes a good book alone. My editors have greatly helped in the development of my books. No matter what letter A does, even if you bring one billion together, they cannot spell ADA. The D is needed.

Someone knows something you do not know. You need the person’s contribution for harmony. Assuming I want to write a book on my wife, I need to interview her parents, brothers, sisters, friends, children and a few others to have a better view. I am limited in my understanding of her without their contributions.

Jesus did not work alone. His disciples, after His ministry on earth were able to achieve huge progress by combining their different gifts. We have the gospel from different angles because different people were used by God to capture harmony.
