A story is told of a rich man who bypassed a queue at a filling station during fuel scarcity. A poor man with a motorcycle was angry and shouted at him.
“Don’t worry, we will settle it,” the rich man said.
After taking the fuel, the rich man parked his car at the station. When the turn of the poor man came, the attendant filled up his tank more than he had requested.
“Why did you do that? You gave me more than my money,” the poor man said.
“That man,” pointing at the rich man. “Has paid for you,” the attendant informed.
The poor man went and thanked the rich man.
“I told you we will settle it,” the rich man stated.
That was the end of the conflict.
I am interested in understanding how leaders and successful people think. I did a mini survey of about twenty and I discovered some lessons. I understood better why many people at that level hardly show adequate concern when poor people cry. They are more interested in assets not liabilities.
A poor person will see a rich man organising an event and hundreds of other rich people will attend in chartered planes. However, the rich don’t see it that way. They see that event as a special opportunity to invest in a fruitful relationship, expand business and political networks. I assure you that religion, tribe, and region don’t matter much at that level. What matters is INTEREST.
A poor person sees millions of Naira in display at an event, but a rich person sees chicken change.
Everyone will attract people in his network. A poor man will attract those with bycicles, motorcycles and a few cars. A rich man will attract those with expensive cars and planes.
A daughter of a rich person was asked why they only marry rich men. “They are the people we can see,” she replied. That means only the rich men are in their network or neighbourhood.
There are alot of systems we need to learn to understand the world better.
