INTRODUCTION
When I went to Adamawa state in 1995, I told some of my friends and others that God gave me a vision of producing a film. Most of them laughed at me. I was rejected, ridiculed and resisted by some people. I was also supported by others. After going through a lot of obstacles, the film was released in 1999, titled, GOOD FOR EVIL. It was the first home video of its kind that was produced in the state (based on my understanding). It was difficult, but not impossible.
I met a man at a village, in Yola, some time ago. He was a smoker and a drunkard. I asked him how long he had been drinking and smoking. He told me. I asked him to tell me the minimum amount he spent daily. He told me. I did a little calculation and found that he had spent a few millions, yet he lived in poverty. Can this man help himself and genuinely contribute to the development of Nigeria as a nation?
I have worked with youths in Adamawa for many years. I discovered that there are talented youths in the state, who are like diamonds in darkrooms. They only need light to be discovered.
Corruption and other challenges
Let us avoid corruption. It destroys a nation. The ideal thing is to get money by providing products or services. This creates a process of genuine transactions for everyone in the process. This is real development. However, corruption takes away that flourishing process. Someone somewhere must suffer or die before you can get money through corruption.
Our ways of handling our religious and tribal differences are also hindering our progress. We need to go beyond our differences and develop together. You will lose a lot if you always search for solutions only within your tribe or religion.
Nigeria’s population according to the US Census Bureau is growing at 3.2% a year. They postulated that “…there will be an estimated 402 million people in Nigeria in 2050.” Can the government alone employ our growing population?
The future will favour entrepreneurs (owners of companies). To add value to our nation and beyond, I invite our youths into the world of entrepreneurship. We have to arise and create opportunities for ourselves and others.
Our company, NACHAU TUROMALE CENTRE LTD was developed to train and help entrepreneurs. We are passionate about that. Our branded courses will help you in your personal development journey. I have done a little survey of about twenty successful people and I discovered some of their secrets. Some important things they do that many of us don’t know about. Someone asked me a question on Friday, during my QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION on Facebook. “WHICH BUSINESS WILL GROW FAST IN GOMBI LGA.” The local government is in Adamawa state.
I responded, “Which problem is disturbing Gombi people without a solution? Can you provide the solution? If yes, then you are in business. Every business is a solution to a problem.”
The civil service Job is good, but it does not lead to sustainability. After working for thirty-five years, you will retire and your son or daughter cannot continue from where you will stop. He or she must start from low to high. Every generation of civil servants is moving but not moving beyond retirement. I was concerned when I went to my state a few years ago. I saw many men and women who were vibrant. Now they are old and retired. It is a season we must all approach with care as young people. Our turn will come. How ready and prepared are we to face it. As for me, I will not retire because of the nature of my work as an entrepreneur. Only death can retire me. What about you? Start a company now that you are young and develop it.
