Anywhere you see novelists, simply know that apart from their real friends, they also have imaginary friends and family members. These imaginary friends are the characters they have created in their stories. They can have conversations with their imaginary friends. They feel their pain and joy. They wish them success in their ambitions.
There was a time when I was writing a story. I created a character whom I loved so much. I admired his courage and his approach to issues. Sadly, he had to die in the story. It was hard for me to kill him. I felt his pain. I felt as though I was betraying our relationship. It was genuinely painful, as if he were a real friend.
So bear with a novelist if you do not see him interacting with his real friends as often as he should. This is because he may be interacting with his imaginary friends through his writing. The world of a novelist is a wonderful world of creativity—a world of passion, a world of bringing the unknown to the known.
